Spa Bathroom Renovation

When a semi-retired couple from Oakville first approached Home Reno Direct with a renovation request to turn their ensuite bathroom into a spa-like oasis, owner Remon Hanoun and his team felt up for the challenge. “The homeowners wanted a place where they could relax and they loved the spa look. We worked with our in-house designers and made it happen,” says Remon. The roughly 225-square foot room had enough space to house every luxury on the clients’ wish list – from a glass-encased walk-in shower to a freestanding tub and more. What started out as an average ensuite bath quickly became a show-stopping room one can easily melt the day’s stresses away in.
Starting with the floor, large-scale 12-inch by 24-inch porcelain tiles were combined with intricate marble mosaic for a luxurious finish that set the high-end tone for the space. Marble was also used in the backdrop for a glass-encased centerpiece shower, which featured a custom bench and rain head. A freestanding soaker tub was also added adjacent to the shower to further up the relaxation factor in the space.
Lighting placement has to be strategic when creating a spa feel in a bathroom, says Remon. You want your fixtures to be bright enough so that the space remains functional, but you don’t want to lose the relaxing ambiance that’s often achieved with a dim glow. At Home Reno Direct, lighting specialists work with on-site designers to determine the best lighting placement for each space. For the clients’ bathroom, pot lights were installed above each doorway leading to separate his and hers walk-in closets and above the mirrors and vanities to help streamline the couples’ morning routines. A grand chandelier above the freestanding tub was included in the design for additional lighting and as a spectacular centerpiece to the space.
When including a large light fixture in your space, makes sure you have your proportions right. You want your piece to make a statement, but you don’t want it to be so impactful or large that it deters from the room’s design. When done right, statement lighting should act as jewelry that finishes off an interior.
High-end furniture and accessories help evoke the luxe spa feel in the clients’ space: brass open shelving for fluffy towels, flower arrangements and other relaxation essentials and a slim-profile side table to elegantly display bath oils. A bench in a nickel finish picks up on the cool tones in the room and acts as a convenient place to slip off a robe.
The overall colour scheme was kept neutral with varying tones of grey, white and silver. Brass details add warmth, as do the pops of deep lavender found in the towels. Patterned wallpaper gives texture and further interest to the space, while keeping with the relaxed tone of the room.
The overall design was achieved in just under eight weeks and the clients couldn’t be happier. As with every Home Reno Direct renovation, its work is held to the highest standard – no project is complete until the clients are fully satisfied.
